Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian musician and composer. He was the youngest of seven children. He lived from 1756 to 1791. He was a prodigy: he started composing when he was only 5 years old. In total, he wrote more than 600 pieces of music. He was only 35 years old when he died.
His most famous work is probably the opera The Magic Flute. It tells the story of Tamino. The Queen of the Night asks him to rescue her daughter Pamina from the priest Sarastro. Tamino and Pamina fall in love. He has to undergo some trials, and she joins him. They triumph. The evil Queen is defeated. Papageno, a bird-catcher who plays the magic flute, helps Tamino. In the end, he meets Papagena, and they fall in love.
Other famous operas by Mozart include:
The Marriage of Figaro
A comic opera. Figaro discovers a Count is trying to seduce his fiancée Susanna. They come up with a plan against him. And many women help them.
Don Giovanni
Based on the legends of Don Juan, a fictional seducer, by Spanish writer Tirso de Molina.
Così fan tutte
Another comic opera. It is usually translated as "Women are like that". Convinced of women's infidelity, Don Alfonso makes his friends Ferrando and Guglielmo distrust their fiancées, sisters Dorabella and Fiordiligi.
Mozart also wrote at least 40 symphonies. He also wrote for small ensembles. A very famous piece by him is Eine kleine Nachtmusik.
