PANTONE releases Pee Color Chart to help people check it they're hydrated enough

PANTONE charts are often the choice references for people who work in the creative industry, and who need to pick or identify colors. But they aren’t guides for personal life… until now. The company has teamed up with Scottish bottled water brand Highland Spring to remind you to drink up with the help of—surprise, surprise—a urine chart.

The intriguing ‘Pee Healthy Guide’ uses PANTONE shades as markers for pee colors, such as ‘You’re At Amber’, ‘Glass Half Full’, and ‘Dry Spell’, so people can compare them with their body fluids to monitor health and hydration. The goal is to attain a pale yellow called ‘Highland Spring in Your Step’.

Explaining the unusual choice of using PANTONE colors, Highland Spring said it wanted to create a way for “polite Brits” to understand hydration. The PANTONE Color Institute says that the selection of PANTONE colors shows how visual language of color can be used as an indicator to help people know if they are hydrated.

The visual guide itself is based on the National Health Service’s Nutrition and Dietetics Urine Color chart. You can see the whole series here.
